Our
Story
For over a decade, Friendly Times Community Connections operated as a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization, supporting marginalized and racialized communities facing systemic barriers and other vulnerable communities to break the cycle of generational trauma.

Now a registered charity, we’re able to expand our outreach and access additional resources. Our trauma-informed crisis prevention programs, including free emergency child care, counselling, support groups, employment services, and wellness initiatives, continue to empower families. With a heart for community and a vision for growth, we aim to extend our model of care globally.

Growth
Nicole Julien (M.Ed., BSc., RECE, RC) has dedicated over 20 years to serving children, families, and communities across Canada and the United States. Her leadership experience spans early childhood education, family support and crisis management, community mental health, and trauma-informed program development. Throughout her career, Nicole has championed the rights of marginalized communities, advocating for equitable access to care and meaningful support for families navigating complex challenges.

Her passion for creating safe, affirming, and culturally grounded spaces for families inspired her to establish Friendly Times Community Connections. Guided by a deep commitment to inclusion and healing-centred practice, Nicole envisioned a community hub where families feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Over the past 15 years, Nicole has focused her research on early childhood inclusion and child abuse prevention. This work continues to shape FTCC’s programs and informs our wraparound service model designed to break cycles of generational trauma. Her leadership reflects a belief in the power of community care, and the transformational impact that culturally responsive, accessible support can have on families.
